data-is-focusable=\"true\">Violence<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">against<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Women<\/span> in the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Southern<\/span> Mediterranean <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Region<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">&#8220;,<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">funded<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">by<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">European<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Union<\/span>, the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Euro<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Mediterranean<\/span> Feminist <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Network,<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">its<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">members<\/span> in <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Lebanon<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">.<\/span> Association Najdeh, and the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Lebanese<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Democratic<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Women<\/span>&#8216;s Gathering, <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">organised<\/span> a <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">training<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">day<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">targeting<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">activists<\/span> from <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">civil<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">society<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">organisations<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">community<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">initiatives<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">from<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">all<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Lebanese<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">regions<\/span>, <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">on<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">October<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">16<\/span>, <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">2020,<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">at<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Radisson<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Blu<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Hotel<\/span> in <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Beirut<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">.<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">This was done for<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">the<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">aim<\/span> of <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">enhancing<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">their<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">knowledge<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">skills<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">about<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">violence<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">against<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">women<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">and<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">girls<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">in<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">international<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">conventions<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The training highlighted the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Lebanese<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">personal<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">status<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">penal<\/span> laws, and the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">advantages<\/span> of <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">enforcing<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">comprehensive<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">laws<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">that<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">criminalise<\/span> violence <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">against<\/span> women and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">address<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">all<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">its<\/span> forms. <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">13<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">activists<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">participated<\/span> in the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">training<\/span>, and the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">participants<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">showed<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">a<\/span> distinctive <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">interaction<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">with<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">topics<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">raised<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">,<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">especially<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">since<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">the<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">majority<\/span> of <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">them<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">live<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">in<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">remote<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">areas<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">where<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">women<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">girls<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">suffer<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">from<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">many<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">types<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">of<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">discrimination<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">and<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">violence<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">related<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">to<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">prevailing<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">masculine<\/span> customs, <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">traditions,<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">and<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">culture<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">training<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">included<\/span> a <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">presentation<\/span> of local and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">international<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">statistics<\/span> as <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">indicators<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">of<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">violations<\/span> against women and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">girls<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">as<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">an<\/span> introduction to <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">present<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">discuss<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">most<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">important<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">international<\/span> conventions and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">resolutions<\/span> to <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">combat<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">violence<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">discrimination<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">against<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">women<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">.<\/span> The statistics included <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">three<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">in<\/span>-depth <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">pivotal<\/span> conventions <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">(<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">CEDAW<\/span> Convention &#8211; <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Resolution<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">1325<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">&#8211;<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Istanbul<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">Convention<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">) and<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">compare<\/span>d <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">them<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">with<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">local<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">legislation<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">laws<\/span> and <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">the<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">extent<\/span> of <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">their<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">conformity<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">and<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">opposition<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">to<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">these<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">conventions<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">end<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">of<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">training<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">day<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\">,<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">through<\/span> the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">working<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">groups<\/span>, the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">most<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">prominent<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">challenges<\/span> in <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">the<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">application<\/span> of <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">these<\/span> agreements were confronted, <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">in<\/span> the local <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">context<\/span>, and the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">mechanisms<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">through<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">which<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">work<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">can<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">be<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">done<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">to<\/span> bridge the <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">gaps<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">between<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">local<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">agreements<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">and<\/span> <span data-is-focusable=\"true\">legislation<\/span><span data-is-focusable=\"true\"> was
